Into the dark

Drumbeat in the dark

moving shadow, kestrel flight

dust flickers, earlier lives.

Heartbeat in the light

morning hastens gloss

of possibility:

hare turns, dog whines

button up shut tight.

You bring laughter

mercurial: wheel of fortune turns

exactly as before.

Drumbeat in the night

in dreams I fly five hundred

years of this

& will you remember?

Fox call, rabbit dies;

all is passing time

a touch, a kiss, a memory

of how it should be.
