Dad

I saw you at the gatethrough summer rainI watched you wave & walk away. No one else could seeyou smile & fadeinto the fading light. Only a glimpse caughtin my mind,: & still I knew, just you can love me as you do. I saw you at the churchacross the greenwhere dead folk wait no birds are singingin that tree & still I knowyou’ll wait for me. I feel you oh so nearI don’t know whythe rain is summer rain the leaves too green again& whatever else I do, I knowI’m tired of living this without you too. To hold me sometimesmake it right, walk our silencethrough the  night. It seems like yesterdayI said goodbye; thoughnearly twenty years have burnt their glorious fizz& left me here again the wayI’ve always been…….alone when you weren't  near .
