River song

River’s a satin shard

green silver green

like a young girl’s dress

a breath, a song, a robin’s flight

for a moment there

we were magnificent

youth coating limbs

faces flushed with new love:

a breath a song a robin’s flight

I return to you changed

now we love in whispers

our kisses muted

caresses gentle

a breath a song a robin’s flight

the dead appear in dreams

take animal form

and all we’ve left behind

imprints on retina.

River’s satin shard

like a young girl’s dress

I return to you changed

now we love in whispers.

This is the last love

no eyes across a room

no interrupting chatter

this is a haunted love

we struggle to release

I return to you changed

now we love in whispers

a breath a song a robin’s flight

I return to you changed

the melody’s unclear

my voice shatters.

our kisses mute

The river is a satin shard

like a young girl’s dress

For a moment there

we were magnificent

majestic in our glory

 I return to you changed

now we love in whispers.
